// Why MalTrak
What makes this engagement different
Hypothesis-driven hunts
Every hunt starts from a concrete hypothesis grounded in current attacker behavior, not from waiting for an alert to fire.
Endpoint, network, and identity
We hunt across the telemetry you already have, including EDR, logs, network data, and identity systems.
Malware analysis in-house
When we find something suspicious, our team can analyze it directly to understand its capabilities and scope the incident quickly.
Detections that last
Successful hunts are turned into new detection rules so the same activity is caught automatically next time.
// Overview
What it is
Threat hunting is the proactive search for attackers who are already inside your environment but have not yet been detected. It starts from the assumption that automated defenses will eventually miss something, and asks: if an adversary were here right now, where would we see them?
Who it is for
- Organizations that suspect a compromise but lack evidence.
- Security teams that want independent assurance that their environment is clean.
- SOCs that want to mature from alert-driven monitoring to proactive detection.
- Companies preparing for, or recovering from, a merger, migration, or incident.
How we approach it
MalTrak's background is in malware analysis and APT investigation, and our team teaches threat hunting to security professionals around the world. That experience shapes every hunt: hypotheses are based on how real attackers behave, and when we find something suspicious we can analyze it ourselves instead of handing it off.
We focus on the areas where attackers usually hide, such as persistence, lateral movement, credential abuse, and command-and-control traffic, and map everything to MITRE ATT&CK so the results feed straight into your detection engineering.
What you keep
Beyond the findings, every hunt leaves your team with new detection rules, a clear view of your visibility gaps, and practical logging recommendations. The goal is for each hunt to make the next attack easier to catch.

// How it works
Our engagement process
A clear, predictable engagement in 5 phases. You always know what is happening and what comes next.
Step 1: Environment and telemetry review
We review your architecture, data sources, and logging to understand what visibility is available and where the gaps are.
Step 2: Hypothesis development
We build hunt hypotheses based on threats relevant to your organization and the techniques they use.
Step 3: Hunting
Our analysts query and analyze your telemetry to confirm or rule out each hypothesis.
Step 4: Investigation and triage
Suspicious findings are investigated in depth, including analysis of any malicious artifacts discovered.
Step 5: Reporting and detection handover
You receive the hunt results, any compromise indicators, and new detection logic for your tooling.
// Deliverables
What you receive
- Hunt report covering every hypothesis tested and its outcome
- Details of any suspicious or malicious activity found
- Indicators of compromise and analyzed artifacts where applicable
- New detection rules and queries for your security tooling
- Visibility gap assessment with logging recommendations
// FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How is threat hunting different from SOC monitoring?
Monitoring reacts to alerts. Threat hunting proactively searches for activity that did not trigger an alert, which is exactly where skilled attackers try to operate.
What happens if you find an active compromise?
We notify your designated contacts immediately and agree next steps with you, including scoping the incident and analyzing the malicious artifacts involved.
What data do you need access to?
Typically read access to your EDR, SIEM or log platform, and relevant identity and network data. We work within your existing tooling wherever possible.
Is this a one-off or ongoing service?
Both are possible. A one-off hunt gives you a point-in-time assurance check, while recurring hunts keep pace with new threats and changes in your environment.
